Argentina’s Trade under-secretary Iván Heyn who was part of the Argentine delegation attending the Mercosur Summit committed suicide in a hotel in Montevideo. The Argentine embassy in Uruguay confirmed the news in a communiqué.
Sources stated that the 34-year-old official was found hanged in his suite at the Radisson Hotel of the capital city of the neighbouring country. The body has already been transferred by Uruguayan authorities and they will hold an autopsy.
After being notified, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner abandoned the meeting of the Mercosur Summit, but returned later. It was firstly said that the Head of State had suffered a nervous collapse, but members of the envoy denied it.
On the other hand, Economy Minister Hernán Lorenzino remained in a meeting with his regional counterparts.
The hotel, where the members of the Mercosur Summit are, reinforced its security in the tenth floor, where the Uruguayan Technical Police entered.
Heyn was seen for the last time on Monday during the committees’ encounter, and had had dinner at the Argentine Embassy last night.
The economist who graduated from Buenos Aires University with merits worked as the head of the Puerto Madero Corporation and as the State’s director of steel producer Aluar, one of the most important companies in the country.
He was president of the Buenos Aires University Students’ Federation and his career in the Kirchnerite government began when he was 28 years old as adviser of Economy Minister of that moment, Felisa Miceli, and as Industry’s secretary between 2008 and 2009.
