Scandal at UCR national convention ‘shows the party is alive,’ Moreau

Radical Party leader Leopoldo Moreau minimizad the clashes that took place in the first day of the party’s National Convention on Friday, in which he and Senator Gerardo Morales shoved each other after several disagreements.

“It’s all an exaggeration. Nothing happened,” Moreau assured when questioned by reporters about his conflict with Morales, in which they exchanged insults and even shoved and pushed each other.

“The first day of the convention was excellent and we held a profound debate,” Moreau insisted, although he warned that “silly anti-Kirchnerism” drove the party to its current crisis.

“The conventions are always passionate, heated, and typical of a party that is alive. This shows that the Radical party is alive,” Moreau stressed and highlighted that last night’s was “a debate we head to hold, it had been a long time since the party held a political debate and thusly there was no politics at all.”

“And the lack of that politics, that stemmed, in our opinion, of a silly anti-kirchnerite stance of opposing the Government in many cases, unsettled the UCR, that is a national, popular and progressive party in its historical level” Moreau added.

Last night’s session was lifted early morning on Saturday due to the lack of quorum. Thus, the need to move forward with the reform of the bloc’s charter to establish young people quota in the party’s posts and the affiliates direct vote to in authorities’ election wasn’t approved.
