Public prosecutor Marcelo Tavolaro requested protective custody for the last man detained in connection with Candela Rodríguez’s murder.
He is believed to have been the one who tricked Candela into going along with him before he kidnapped her. Leo Jara, one of the last detainee in the case, had been linked to Candela by various witnesses who had said that he had been seen with her at the entrance of her school or near her home.
Tavalaro charged Jara with first degree murder and thus requested protective custody to Judge Alfredo Meade, who has five days to decide whether he agrees to the request.
In the investigation carried out by the police and the district attorney, it was determined that Jara called Candela’s attention on August 22nd outside her home and forced her to get into a car to kidnap her.
Sometime during the investigation, Jara was mentioned as 11 year old Candela’s boyfriend, a claim her mother, Carola Labrador, firmly denied.
Aside from Jara, there are other seven people detained in connection to the case, all of them indicted and under protective custody.
Initially Tavolaro had 15 days to gather enough evidence linking Jara to Candela´s kidnapping. After the deadline expired, the prosecutor asked for a two week prorogation.
The suspect remains in custody since October the 18th when he was seized from Buenos Aires locality of José C. Paz. According to sources, Tavolaro asked the judge to keep him in custody for «first degree murder.»

Besides Jara, Hugo Bermúdez, Néstor Altamirano, Gladys Cabrera, Alberto Espínola, Gabriel Gómez and Guillermo López are in custody with charges linking to Candela´s murder.
The case – Last August 11-year-old Candela Sol Rodríguez went missing in the Great Buenos Aires district of Hurlingham, causing huge public outcry before the girl’s body was discovered, ten days later.
