D’Elía handed four day suspended prison sentence over assault on rural worker

Picket leader Luis D’Elía received a suspended prison sentence of four days as a result of assaulting rural supporter Alejandro Gahan in March 26th, 2008, amid the Government’s conflict with rural sectors over a hike on grain export taxes.

Judge Susana Patricia Guichandut accepted prosecutor Edgardo Orfila’s request of a four day sentence for the assault on Alejandro Gahan, amid the Government’s conflict with the rural sector over a hike on grain export taxes.

Gahan’s lawyer, Francisco García Santillán, had requested that D’Elía received a month suspense prison sentence for the charges of assault.”

The trial began on Wednesday morning, with D’Elía’s hearing and said that right before he hit Gahan, the rural businessman had called him “fucking nigger.”
