Rodríguez Larreta admits causes of building collapse ‘still unknown’

City Cabinet Chief Horacio Rodríguez Larreta
City Cabinet Chief Horacio Rodríguez Larreta assured that “we still don’t the causes of the collapse” of a 10-storey building along Bartolome Mitre 1200 last night, while not dismissing the possibility that the construction might be demolished in the next few hours, following the architects’ evaluation.

“If we prove that there was a mistake or a failure to comply with certain standards in the construction, the responsible party for this situation are those that built it in a fraudulent way,” he explained.

“We are studying the risk level of the surrounding buildings,” the City Cabinet Chief added. “The emergency system worked very well and fast,” when contacted by a resident before part of a 10-storey building collapsed. The construction was completely evacuated.

“Now, the priority is to evaluate risks and attend people. We have to determine the cause of the collapse and see what we will do next thing,” he added.

Rodríguez Larreta announced that a cautionary measure, power and water have been cut in the area and reiterated that the possibility of demolishing the building depends on the risks it may carry.
