Argentina Stocks Down In Light Trading; Merval -0.8%

Argentine stocks fell Friday, in line with markets around the world. The Merval index slid 0.8% to 2,761.36 points in volume totaling 31.3 million pesos ($7.4 million).

That puts the index down 8.4% on the week.

«Despite the good jobs data in the U.S., pessimism about the situation in Greece weighed on the bond and stock markets,» Bull Market Brokers said in its daily commentary.

The bank Banco Macro SA (BMA, BMA.BA) led the declines, falling just over 3% to ARS9.78. Pampa Energia SA (PAMP.BA) fell 2.8% to ARS2.40 while Grupo Financiero Galicia SA (GGAL, GGAL.BA) fell 2.5% to ARS3.9.

Banco Patagonia SA (BPATL, BPAT.BA) led the gains by rising, almost 2.3% to ARS4.50. The oil and gas company YPF SA (YPF, YPFD.BA) rose 2% to ARS154.

The Global X FTSE Argentina 20 ETF, which tracks shares of Argentine companies listed on international markets, rose 0.3% to $11.52 in New York.

The price of the benchmark peso-denominated 2033 bond fell 3.35% to ARS130, yielding around 12.4%.

The peso was little changed at ARS4.254 on the MAE local foreign-exchange wholesale market, compared with ARS4.249 previously.
