Argentine president Cristina Fernandez´ landslide victory in recent elections with almost 54% of the ballots and the widest margin since the country´s return to democracy in 1983, has been praised by worldwide leaders.
The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmud Ahmadinejad, sent a message to Ms. Fernandez congratulating her on her historic re-election and expressed hope that Tehran-Buenos Aires ties would be increased during Fernandez´s term in office.
Iranian ambassador in Argentina, Mr. Ali Pakdaman, granted an exclusive interview to Press TV. He analyzed the course of relations between both nations and the challenges ahead in the next 4 years of President Fernandez.
Ambassador Pakdaman also pointed out that the longstanding relationships between the two countries are now going through a period of sustained growth.
Indeed Mr. Pakdaman explained that Argentine-Iranian trade ties could be tracked back to 1902 and currently run at approximately 1.5 billion USD.
Not only have political and economic ties moved towards a new stance. Iranian embassy in Argentina has begun to promote cultural activities in Buenos Aires.
During the past decade, Iran has fostered closer relationships not only with Argentina but with other Latin American countries and worked towards building cohesive diplomatic relations and strengthening economic agreements in the region.
