‘Under these conditions, the Radical party isn’t useful for Argentine democracy,’ Aguad

Radical Party lawmaker Oscar Aguado sustained that “the Radical Party, under these conditions, isn’t useful for Argentine democracy,” and warned that the party must resume “the path it should have never left,” to become “a long term alternative.”

Aguad’s comments come after the Radical Party’s defeat in last Sunday’s presidential elections, in which contender Ricardo Alfonsín ended up in third place, with 11 percent of votes, after reelected President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Socialist candidate Hermes Binner.

“I´m Radical and I urge the party to resume the path it should have never left. It must oppose the populist alternative with long term development alternative. Under its current state, the Radical party is not useful for Argentine democracy,” Sanz stated.

Aguad added that “the Radical party never got together to discuss which were the reasons that prompted (former late President Raúl) Alfonsín downfall in 1989, and the same thing happened with (Fernando) De la Rúa. These problems cause our permanent failures.”

The lawmaker also blasted President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s administration, and said he doesn’t agree with “the public spending increasing excessively. I don’t think the Argentine economy is doing well. It’s doing well only in appearance.”
