Overnight shooting in Hurlingham; possible links to Candela detainee

A shoot-out took place Thursday night in front of a house belonging to family members of one of the detainees in the Candela Rodríguez murder case. Neighbours in the area announced that there had been a planned attack on the house; however Police suggested that the shooting took place between an officer and a group of delinquents who had tried to attack him.
The incident took place late last night in the area of William Morris, in the Buenos Aires province area of Hurlingham, according to Police officials.
Initially, neighbours living in the area said that shots were fired at the front of the house belonging to the mother and sister of Guillermo López, one of the seven people arrested in connection to the murder of Candela Rodríguez.
It was thought that the incident could have been a deliberate attack against López’ family, seeing as just two weeks ago a very similar scene took place at the house of another one of the detained suspects. A Molotov bomb had been thrown at the front of Hugo Bermúdez’s house, whom is suspected of being the mastermind of Candela’s murder.
However, beforehand the Police stated that the incident took place when two thieves tried to attack a police officer who was on his way home, whilst driving in his white Fiat Duna.
According to police reports, the officer, who at the time was dressed in civilian clothing, resisted his attackers grabbing his gun and shooting at the delinquents. A shoot-out occurred between them for a brief spell until the group escaped.
All of this took place just metres from the house where Guillermo López’ family lives, who was arrested on September 15 in connection to the young girl’s murder.
López is also neighbours with Carola Labrador, the mother of the 11-year-old murder victim, who was killed at the end of August after having been held captive for a week.
