Railway union leader arrested; Sarmiento workers go on strike

Railway union leader Rubén Sobrero and spokesman Leonardo Portorreal were arrested as they were both accused of participating in the incidents occurred in May, when several people set a Sarmiento train on fire.
The Labour Ministry ordered a mandatory conciliation for five working days over the conflict triggered by the Sarmiento train line workers’ strike which began after the arrest of Sobrero and Portorreal.
Workers of the Sarmiento line train service, which covers the area of west Buenos Aires province, called on a strike to protest the detentions.
Members of the Unión Ferroviaria (UF) union announced that the strike will continue until midnight and called for a march on Monday. Nevertheless, other union will be in charge of the pre-agreed trips, but will have at least a 20 minutes delay.
Buenos Aires Trains (TBA) had included staff in order to guarantee the service.
Sobrero was accused of being part of an illegal organization linked to destruction of 22 train carriages in May.
