UDESO president Ricardo Alfonsín ruled out the existence of a “Borocotó effect” (leaving one’s party to become part of another, usually ideologically opposed political group) inside the Radical party once the new Congress is inaugurated in December.
“No UCR senator or lawmaker will flee to another party, nor negotiate with the ruling party any matters that would betray those who voted for us, you can be sure of that,” he stated.
After explaining that his comments were not aimed at Federal Peronism’s Felipe Solá, who recently abandoned his party, he explained that “we’re all adults and voters are at least 18 years old. We shouldn’t judge him for this; we should let society do it.”
As the presidential election approaches, the national lawmaker once again rejected rumours that he is at odds with radical candidates and governors. “Not at all, on the contrary,” he assured.
Regarding his chances to win, Alfonsín said that “he is in touch with reality” and knows that it will be hard to defeat President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. He said, however, that he has to fight nonetheless.
