BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)–Argentine energy conglomerate Pampa Energia SA (PAMP.BA, PAM) posted a net loss of ARS80.8 million ($19.4 million) for the second quarter 2011, the company said late Thursday in its earnings statement.
That compares with a net profit of ARS87 million that Pampa reported for the same quarter a year earlier.
Pampa did not elaborate on its loss other than to say that its operating loss totaled ARS77 million and that it paid around ARS3.7 million in income taxes.
Pampa is the leading integrated electricity company in Argentina. It generates, transmits and distributes power. Its installed generation capacity is almost 2,200 megawatts, accounting for 7.8% of Argentina’s total generation capacity.
The company’s holdings include Argentina’s leading power distributor, Edenor, and the power transmitter, Transener, among others.
