Electoral authority warns against ‘baseless’ fraud complaints

National Elector Director Alejandro Tullio rejected opposition fraud claims ahead of the August 9 run, demanding sanctions in case of “baseless” statements.
“We have to be more intransigent with baseless complaints,” Tullio warned today. In an interview with the Del Plata radio station, he pointed out the distribution of ballot papers was a responsibility of each party.
“The distribution of ballot papers is a responsibility of each party. Each party authority has the function of controlling but also guaranteeing the restock of ballot papers,” Tullio said adding “polling stations authorities are political activists that are there to guarantee the rights of each party.”
Tullio’s statements come following the ruling by substitute electoral judge Laureano Durán who yesterday resolved to set the maximum number of ballot papers at 25 in each voting station, taking political parties with fewer polling authorities to complaint against what they called an “outlaw maneuver.”
However, the official considered Durán’s ruling “does not restrict the liberty of any party” and that setting the limit at 25 “does not mean there will be only 25 ballot papers for each party.”
“In a general election, there are 50 ballot papers for each polling station to start the election. The restock of ballot papers must be a responsibility of authorities at each polling station.”
