Media reports on Aerolíneas Argentinas were promoting a “campaign to create chaos,” the head of Argentina’s flag carrier said pointing out the flights situation was “normal.”
“There are no cancellations, flights are being sold and people are boarding,” Recalde said explaining that the company was only “reprogramming” flights, “which is what is usually done to adjust resources and demands.”
“They are 10 or 15 flights per day which are reprogrammed, which is very usual in the industry. For instance, two flights with few occupancy are considered as one and passengers instead of leaving at 10 they leave at 11,” the former candidate for Buenos Aires City mayor today said in statements to the TV Pública, denying the cover of the Clarín newspaper.
“I was surprised by the level of virulence and I remembered that on Sunday (BA City Mayor) Mauricio Macri mentioned the need to administrate the company right. I would like to know how he would do it because we know that subways, with the same budget that Aeorolíneas Argentinas has, are handled by a private party that is taking away the profits and it has fewer cars, frequency and passengers,” Recalde stated.
“There is a campaign not only to create chaos but to not sell tickets but we must make clear the window is open for any of the 36 destinations where Aerolíneas now flies to in the country or any of the international (destinations),” he insisted defending the administration of the country’s flag carrier by the State.
“To see it (the company) as a business unit is a biased vision typical of a project of country that Argentineans already experienced, we know what is to administrate under the principles of leaving in private hands the strategic resources of the State.
Earlier today, the company released a statement apologizing for the inconvenience that affected 22,500 people who had their flights planned for the beginning of the winter holidays.
