Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández considered “auspicious” the 1-year extension the International Monetary Fund granted Argentina with to deal with its statistics and price indexes, pointing out the organization commanded by Christine Lagarde called for some adjustments as well.
Argentina’s current situation is “very good,” Fernández told reporters today. “If they had not agreed with the Consumer Price Index or with the GDP calculation they would have said it and they did not say a word,” the head of ministers stated.
“They say there are matters that need to be adjusted, some of the data that is referred (to them) and they agreed on a deadline of a year (to succeed in) a joint work of quality and responsibility.”
“For Argentineans, it is a more than auspicious event and if they would have had something to object regarding the indexes they would have said it plainly, as they have always done; they just said that there is an adjustment to make and we must adjust it as it corresponds. We are happy because the path we chose is the right one and because results are out in the open,” he added praising efforts by the administration of late Néstor Kirchner who “made the decision to pay the IMF,” allowing “society” to keep its links with the international credit organism “but with some rights now that we did not have before, because of the many money we owed.”
