Judge Fayt back to Court for new resolution

Amid questionings over his health condition, Supreme Court Justice Carlos Fayt showed himself publicly this morning as he readied to attend the Courthouse where he will participate of a meeting of Argentina’s highest tribunal in which all four SC justices issue a new resolution each Tuesday.

Fayt left his home in the Buenos Aires City neighbourhood of Recoleta some minutes after 9 am to attend the building located at 550 Talcahuano Street, the Supreme Court headquarters.

The 97-year-old magistrate appeared in public for the first time in almost a month on Wednesday last week, failing to appear on Tuesday’s usual meetings.

With his reappearance, the Supreme Court ratified the re-election of RicardoLorenzetti as head of the Supreme Court following the controvery that had arisen the previous week when it was confirmed that a first resolution of the Court renewing Lorenzetti’s position was signed without the presence of Carlos Fayt.

Speculations continued last week when Fayt returned to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, with authorities practically “sealing” the fourth floor of the Courthouse where it was not allowed the circulation or access of jounalists.

Minutes after noon, the mistery was lifted and the Centre of Judicial Information (CIJ) uploaded on its website a report that said the “Supreme Court has reafirmed its faculties to designate authorities” and attached the complete legal text.

The judges confirmed their faculties to select its authorities and justified the validity of Lorenzetti’s reelection.

The ruling Victory Front (FpV) party questioned the decision, saying the agreement was «irregular» with Cabinet Chief accusing Lorenzetti of “ideological falseness.”
