Another Kirchnerite leader steps down from PASO elections

Social Development vice minister Carlos Castagneto has stepped down from the governmental race in Buenos Aires province, following President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s call to reduce Victory Front’s number of candidates.

“I deeply believe that the true candidate is our political project, so I withdraw my candidacy for governor, and will keep on supporting the policies that bring joy to our people with commitment, love and work,” Castagneto published in his Twitter and Facebook accounts today.

The vice minister follows ANSES security agency head Diego Bossio and Entre Ríos governor Sergio Urribarri, who decided to drop their bids after Ms Kirchner requested FpV candidates who did not have enough popular support to do so.

“Thanks to Néstor [meaning late President Kirchner] and Cristina [Fernández de Kirchner], we are part, together with thousands of comrades, of a collective project that travels to every corner of the country returning rights,” Castagneto added.

There are still nine FpV candidates that aim to replace Daniel Scioli as Buenos Aires governor in the upcoming elections: Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández, lawmaker Julián Domínguez, Bapro president Santiago Montoya, Berazategui Mayor Patricio Mussi, Lomas de Zamora Mayor Martín Insaurralde, Security Secretary Sergio Berni, BA province lawmaker Fernando “Chino” Navarro, La Matanza Mayor Fernando Espinoza and AFSCA media watchdog head Martín Sabbatella.
