Train drivers union confirms strike in June

The head of La Fraternidad train drivers union Omar Maturano has rejected the government’s 27 percent wage hike proposal and confirmed a strike for the first week of June.

“It doesn’t add up for us,” Maturano said, commenting on Economy Minister Axel Kicillof’s suggestion to negotiate salary increases up to that figure.

Maturano assured White and Blue CGT leader Luis Barrionuevo and CGT Azopardo leader Hugo Moyano will support the La Fraternidad walk out.

La Fraternidad has not decided yet on the exact date of the strike, but is determined to carry on with the measure during the first week of June.

“We have asked the five workers centrals to get together and decide a date for a 24-hour strike. If they do not agree on a date, we will strike during the first week of June, could be on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday,” Maturano said.

The union leader specified the strike will be done to demand the government for a decrease in inflation rates, a hike in minimum wages, a lower income tax pressure, and a law to fight crime in trains.
