‘Blue’ dollar falls 10 cents to 12.70 pesos

The «blue» illegal dollar rate kicked off the week with a 10-cent fall to 12.70 pesos today, according to ambito.com, continuing a downward trend from the end of last week. On Friday, it ended four cents lower at 12.80 pesos.

The blue-chip swap rate also lost value, dropping 10 cents to 11.88 pesos.

The official rate closed half a cent up in main banks and foreign exchange offices of the city, ending the day’s trading at 8.905 pesos. Last week the currency rose two cents amid new interventions by the Central Bank which bought 50 million dollars in the market boosting its international reserves to 32.68 billion dollars.

The injection of 1.247 billion dollars from the Bonar 24 debt auction last week also pushed reserves up for the Central Bank.

Economy Minister Axel Kicillof last Friday compared the purchase of dollars in the last 30 years in Argentina to a «carnival» and stressed «dollar can be used to buy imports, pay debt services, travel abroad or saving in foreign currency.»
