Sanz won’t drop presidential candidacy, hopes to beat contender Macri

Radical Party (UCR) presidential hopeful Ernesto Sanz said “there was never the possibility” of resigning to his candidacy, expressing hopes he will beat his competitors in the primaries, Civic Coalition’s Elisa Carrió and, particularly, PRO party’s Mauricio Macri.

“There is no possibility to be (Mauricio) Macri’s vice president, everything is defined. The convention nominated me and we agreed to go to a competition in August’s primaries,” the senator and president of the Radical Party (UCR) said today referring to the conventional held by his party in March in the Gualeguaychú city of the province of Entre Ríos where a majority decided to close an alliance with Mauricio Macri ahead of the general elections.

“We are in the same moment as that of the convention. There is a nomination, with an agreement and we will go to compete,” Sanz affirmed considering all disputes in the UCR have been overcome.

“All disputes within the Radical Party were overcome; we are all closing ranks behind the Gualeguaychú resolution and in every part of the country, seeking to obtain the major benefit for this agreement. All UCR members will work for my candidacy in the primaries,” he insisted and pointed out he was working with both Mauricio Macri and Elisa Carrió – the third contender in the PASO primaries in August who was the first to clinch a deal with Macri earlier this year -, on “common lists” for Congress.

“We usually talk with (Mauricio) Macri and Elisa Carrió and we are moving forward with the line-up of a common space were we will compete for the presidential candidacy on August 9 and we will conform a space that includes common lists of national legislators.”

Regarding the elections to be held in the province of Mendoza this weekend, Sanz said the UCR was taking a “formula that has rallied the support of different sectors of the opposition.” “This year there are many possibilities for a change of government, I am hopeful about the result in my province,” Sanz said.
