US dollar up 1 cent at 8.785 pesos; ‘blue’ dollar unchanged at 12.76

The US dollar advanced one cent to 8.785 pesos today in Buenos Aires City banks and foreign exchange offices, after climbing another half cent yesterday.

Central Bank authorities sold a total of US$40 million in reserves over the course of trading, in a bid to prevent any further rises on the currency.

The so-called «blue» dollar was up most of the day, but dropped at the end of trading to close at 12.76 pesos, unchanged from yesterday’s close. The informal rate of the US currency has dropped 26 cents this month.

The gap between the two rates stands at 45.2%.
