The Israeli government has said that the investigation into the Israel Embassy bombing of 1992 is responsibility of the Argentine State, following President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner comments on the matter during her address to Congress.
Ms Kirchner had wondered on Sunday why Israel demands justice over the AMIA Jewish center bombing of 1994 but does not call for justice in the Embassy case, in which 29 people were killed.
Today, the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires issued a press release arguing that “as international treaties state, the safety of all diplomatic delegations is responsibility of the recipient country. It is the Argentine responsibility to investigate the attack perpetrated against the Israel Embassy in Buenos Aires.”
On Sunday, CFK had also stated she will summon former Israeli ambassador to Argentina Itzjak Aviran for questioning.
“During the last 23 years, Israel has supported the continuity of actions aimed at taking the responsible to trial. That goal undoubtedly expresses the will of both nations,” the statement by the Israeli Embassy reads.
