Lagomarsino to be removed from Prosecution Unit post

Communications director in the Public Prosecutions Ministry Luis Villanueva has confirmed that computer technician Diego Lagomarsino has been removed from his position with the office, a decision made by interim lead prosecutor of the AMIA case Alberto Gentili.

Lagomarsino is currently the only individual facing charges over the death of close collaborator Alberto Nisman, to whom he lent the gun which ended his life in January.

«The new prosecutor has asked for Lagomarsino to be removed because it appears that he did not do any work. We are not going to institutionalise ‘gnocchis’ (employees who do nothing)», Villanueva said to Nacional Rock.

The official explained that «every hiring decision as full-time and contracted individuals were asked for and selected by Nisman» in the prosecution unit.

Asked about Lagomarsino’s salary, Villanueva asserted that it was not normal for someone working in the unit to take home 41,000 pesos a month, although he pointed out that «Nisman used to decide the amount earned, he put forward personnel and he had his own budget.»

«Lagomarsino was a computer technician that worked exclusively for Nisman, doing what I do not know. The AMIA unit has other technicians,» he underlined, adding that the new investigating team for the 1994 bombing would be announced in the near future.
