‘Blue’ dollar up at 13.70 pesos; formal rate climbs to 8.635

The parallel ‘blue’ dollar advanced five cents to 13.70 pesos in Buenos Aires City’s underground foreign exchange houses.

The official US dollar closed today up half a cent, selling at 8.635 pesos in banks and exchange bureaus. The currency has already appreciated by 0.8 percent in the first three weeks of 2015, forcing the Central Bank to sell reserves in order to prevent further jumps.

The entity sold $US20 million in today’s trading, the same sum as one day earlier in the face of a dollar supply that did not meet the demands of banks and importers.

The gap between the two rates was at 58%.

Meanwhile, the blue-chip exchange rate fell three cents to 12.13 pesos, after dropping 30 cents yesterday. The stock exchange rate fell five cents to 12.53 pesos.
