AMIA case prosecutor Alberto Nisman has responded to criticism from Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, who defined the episode as “a media show”. In reaction, the attorney said that “anything the accused has to say, he’ll say it before a Judge».
Another escalation took place today, following the first official response to Nisman’s complaint from yesterday, accusing President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her foreign minister, among other officials of covering the 1994 AMIA bombing attack.
Nisman denied that he was receiving orders from ex-SIDE intelligence chief Jaime Stiuso, as alleged by the minister, stating that «the decisions are mine and mine only».
“An accused specializes in controversy. Everything the accused Timerman has to say, will be discussed in front of a Judge. I won’t answer,” with this words, special attorney Nisman said.
One of the polemic points consisted in the “memorandum of understanding”, signed on 2013 with the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to the prosecutor, “it aimed to take down the red order [issued by Interpol]”, to detain the Persians suspects in the planning of the tragic event.
Earlier this morning, Federal judge María Servini de Cubría has ruled out ending January’s court recess in order to hear the accusations filed by prosecutor Nisman.
