Capitanich: Blocking Gils Carbó’s appointments is ‘undemocratic, unconstitutional’

Amid the escalation of the clash between courts and Attorney General Gils Carbó, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich rejected once again the Buenos Aires City Federal Criminal Appeals Court’s ruling that blocked the appointments of prosecutors made by the official.

He stated that the court’s decision was a “clear attack against the Judicial branch and the autonomy of the Public Ministry enshrined in the Constitution.” He pointed out that the prosecutors whose designations have been under fire “were approved by the Senate.”

Speaking to the press at the government house, Capitanich accused the tribunal of showing a “clearly undemocratic and unconstitutional behaviour” which “undermines the legitimacy of Congress and the division of powers.”
