National legislators representing the Victory Front have condemned the judiciary for putting the brakes on the designation of 16 prosecutors, who were appointed by attorney general Alejandra Gils Carbó in the face of fierce criticism from opposition forces.
Federal judge Enrique Lavié Pico last week imposed an injunction preventing the officials from taking their new posts, upholding a request from Renewal Front lawmaker Mauricio D’Alessandro.
Lower House president Julián Domínguez made public the party’s opposition to the injunction preventing prosecutors taking up their roles in a press conference, where he was joined by Senate counterpart Miguel Pichetto and several lawmakers.
«These are not new prosecutors, this is not a discretionary act, they are career prosecutors and the Attorney General’s office has the right to assign them tasks,» Pichetto underlined.
Domínguez, meanwhile, told lawmakers they could not «allow the courts to become paralysed and the separation of powers to be compromised.»
