The Federal Public Incomes Administration (AFIP) has announced that the revenue agency collected a total tax income of 1.17 trillion pesos over the course of 2014, a new record for the entity and a figure 36 percent higher than the previous year.
AFIP chief Ricardo Echegaray and Finance secretary Juan Carlos Pezoa revealed the figures to reporters today in a press conference. The pair also informed that December’s taking totalled 108.6 billion pesos, an increase of 42.8 percent over the same period in 2013.
The officials highlighted greater efficiency in monitoring tax evasion as one of the key reasons for the increases, contradicting opposition economists who pin the rises in income as a knock-on effect of price increases due to inflation.
