Moyano, Micheli to discuss calling off the strike

The head of the anti-government splinter of the CGT labour confederation Hugo Moyano said that the government’s decision to exempt half-year bonus from income tax for workers who earn less than 35,000 pesos a month is “a relief.” He and unionist leaders Luis Barrionuevo (CGT Azul y Blanca) and Pablo Michelli (CTA) will meet to discuss whether to call off the strike they had launched for next week.
“After this announcement, which actually brings relief to the situation, we need to continue talking today and tomorrow with transport unions, with CGT Azul y Blanca and Michelli’s CTA,” Moyano said in an interview with Mitre radio. “Once those talks are over we will decide (whether to launch the strike).”
Before president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced the exemption, the anti-government union leaders had launched a 24-hour strike to be held during the first fortnight of the month.
UTA transport union lifted the strike this morning, as a response to the government’s “gesture,” its head Roberto Fernández said.
