Government-allied lawmakers in the Lower House have secured committee approval for the formulation of a new Criminal Procedure Code, which will go before the full chamber for debate and voting in a special session next Thursday.
Justice minister Julio Alak was one of the officials who spoke before a plenary of the Justice, Penal Legislation and Budget and Treasury committees. The politician, however, left the Lower House without answering questions from the opposition.
The bill has already passed through the Senate, which voted positively for the proposed changes last week, and is expected to become law before the end of 2014.
