Gov’t rejects rumours of dollar clamp removal

Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich said the government “does not act on rumours” when asked about the possibility of removing official controls on the foreign exchange market on February. He also backed the president’s remarks refusing once again changes in the income tax floor yesterday.
The official did not give further details when asked about recent versions of changes in foreign exchange markets controls.
He referred to the claims for an increase to the income tax floor and supported the words of president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. “The president made it very clear yesterday. Ressources are needed in order to boost consumption and aggregate demand, to build infrastructure,” Capitanich said in his daily press briefing at the government house. “They should be provided by those who earn the most,” he stressed.
The official rebuked those who “seek to exempt natural persons from the income tax” saying that their “fiscal capacity has to be levied.”
He also criticised the opposition who attack the government for its fiscal balance and propose lower taxes, higher public expenditure while promising no fiscal deficit. “That is not real, contradictory and politically irresponsible,” Capitanich stated.
