Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich condemned the official announcement made by opposition lawmakers confirming that they will not support the appointment by the government of a new Supreme Court Justice to replace resigning Raúl Zaffaroni. Capitanich said that the decision “violates the Constitution and the laws.”
The leaders of UCR, UNEN-Broad Front, PRO and dissident PJ released a document yesterday making official their decision to refuse to give consensus for the naming of Zaffaroni’s replacement by the Executive until a new government is elected after next year’s elections.
“We regret the decision,” Capitanich said in his daily press briefing at the government house. “It contradicts what they have always proclaimed and it violates the Constitution and the laws,” he added.
“They should not behave in an speculative way, they should respect the Constitution, which determines the procedure for the designation of new members for the Supreme Court,” the official stated.
“The Argentine people deserves a coherent attitude (from the opposition),” he added.
