‘CFK’s decision to say no to vultures was an act of full sovereignty’

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich headed today the government’s central rally to commemorate the country’s Sovereignty Day that marks the 169th anniversary of the Obligado Battle.
The ceremony took place at the Vuelta de Obligado monument in the Buenos Aires province city of San Pedro, to pay tribute to the troops that defended Argentina’ national interests fighting against the Anglo-French fleet that sought to navigate the country’s rivers.
“When the President (Cristina Fernández de Kirchner) said no to vulture funds, minority and speculative capitals, she made an act of full sovereignty,” the head of ministers said alluding to Argentina’s ongoing legal dispute with so called “vulture funds” suing the country over its defaulted bonds more than a decade ago. The government has systematically refused to pay hedge funds in full saying it would not compromise debt commitments it has with 93 percent of creditors that did accept the 2005 and 2010 swaps.
Defence Minister Agustín Rossi, Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo, Security Minister Cecilia Rodríguez, Industry Minister Débora Giorgi, Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and San Pedro Mayor Pablo Guacone were also present at the event.
