‘There is no reason to put up with foreigners who commit crimes’

Ruling Victory Front’s Senator Aníbal Fernández rejected claims that the new Criminal Procedural Code reform is “xenophobic” and defended the initiative that seeks to deport foreigners who are found guilty of a crime once they have served their sentence.
Fernández said that when inmigrant commits a crime, “the first thing to do is to bring him to Justice, guaranteeing his right to defence and due process” and to “sanction” him.
The Senator explained that according to the Code reform, once the criminal has been sanctioned and once he has served his sentence, he will be expelled from the country.
“This government has not prevented foreigners to stay in the country,” Fernández stressed, but he added that “there is no reason to put up with foreigners who commit crimes.”
