President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner will finally travel to Chaco province on Thursday evening, Cabinet sources confirmed to ámbito.com. Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich had anounced earlier today that the visit had been suspended.
In a ceremony scheduled to begin at 7.30 pm, the head of state will inaugurate the Modern Biotechnology center and officially open the bidding process for the Miraflores-Zaparinqui aqueduct for Resistencia City.
Ms. Kirchner will arrive in Chaco amid the campaign for local elections, in which Capitanich –who took a leave as Chaco’s governor to become her cabinet chief- has already launched his pre-candidacy for Mayor of Resistencia City, in opposition to acting governor Juan Carlos Bacileff Ivanoff, his former partner at the Governor’s office.
Secretary to the Presidency Alfredo Scoccimarro explained that the president is «working normally» at the Olivos residence and that she will not be attending the ceremony to mark the 37th anniversary of Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo in La Plata tomorrow.
The president had cancelled her agenda for a period of 48 hours last Friday upon doctor’s orders after having been diagnosed with a case of pharyngitis.
This is not the first time that she is affected by throat problems. In July she underwent a two-week treatment for this specific condition, but which on that occasion also included her larynx.
