Domestic Trade Secretary Augusto Costa has announced the extension of the price watch program, and revealed there will be a 4.3 percent rise in prices involved in the plan for the fourth trimester of 2014.
The new stage of the government-sponsored program will incorporate 42 new products, which will cost an average 9% less than before being listed in the plan. Eight new businesses will also be included.
“This fact reflects the interest the program has sparked. The incorporation of new businesses will provide a wider product offer and diversity,” Costa told reporters during a conference held at the Economy Ministry together with business representatives.
Some of the products included, which now reach a total of 383, will cover sectors previously left out of the program, such as baby products.
The Trade Secretary also stated inflation rates in the price watch program will be of 12% from January 2014 to the same month next year, and highlighted the “dialogue and consensus” achieved between government and business leaders.
