Moyano ‘on alert’, rules out further strike action

The Azopardo faction of the General Workers’ Confederation (CGT) led by Hugo Moyano has resolved to stay «on alert», but ruled out further industrial action or protests for the immediate future.

A plenario of Moyano’s trade union delegates met today in the CGT’s headquarters in San Telmo. Luis Barrionuevo, the CGT Blue and White leader who had moved closer to the Teamster chief for a series of general strikes in 2014, was tellingly not present for the summit.

The gastronomic heavyweight is said to be keen to continue with aggressive measures including a national strike of up to 48 hours in duration, while Moyano has adopted a more cautious tone after fierce criticisms from the Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration over the unionists’ «destabilising» behavious, as the president described it.

The plenary decided to give the union the tools to «adopt the measures it considers suitable and the relevant dates» for new protests, without setting a timeframe for new action.
