Alicia Castro thanks British unions’ support in vulture funds battle

Argentine ambassador to the UK Alicia Castro spoke at the 17th The Communication Workers Union (CWU) Women’s Conference in Leeds and thanked British unions for their support in Argentina’s battle against its holdout creditors, the so called vulture funds.

“I would like to point out the support given to my country in our fight against vulture funds. These funds pose a threat not only to Argentina and its workers but to every country in the world and their capacity to boost its economies and create jobs,” ambassador Castro said.

The Argentine official also praised British union’s support in Buenos Aires’ calls for dialogue in the bilateral dispute over the sovereignty of Malvinas islands.

Speaking in front of over 300 unionists, Castro told of the struggle of Argentina against the globalized neo-liberal model of capitalism and celebrated the arrival in power in Latin America of “brave women” who lead “progressive governments” like Chile’s Michelle Bachelet, Brazil’s Dilma Rousseff and Argentina’s Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
