‘Democracy is not imposed by bombing countries’

In tune with president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s criticism about the US-led “war on terrorism” at the UN Security Council yesterday, Foreign Ministry Héctor Timerman said that “democracy is not imposed by bombing countries” and pointed out that the UN has “not authorized any military operation” against the Islamic State (IS).
“The president has stated it very clearly yesterday: allies and terrorist groups change every year,” Timerman said in reference to the US-led coalition that are carrying on airstrikes against IS militants in Syria. The official stressed that the UN has not authorized the military operation against the IS.
«Democracy is not imposed by bombing countries or invading cities. Human lives are at stake here and that is why we need to be very careful,” he added during an interview with a local radio station.
Ms. Kirchner had blasted US “global war on terror” for its lack of results, calling for a “new method” during a special session of the Security Council that approved a resolution to hasten cooperation in the face of the flow of foreign terrorist fighters travelling to and from conflict areas.
