Lower House committee meets to discuss 2015 Budget bill

A meeting of the Budget and Finance Lower House committee began this noon to analyse the 2015 budget bill with three economy ministry officials addressing lawmakers.

Emmanuel Álvarez Agis, Juan Carlos Pezoa and Pablo Lopez were informing about several details of the bill.

The meeting was headed by Victory Front lawmaker Roberto Feletti, who announced the bill will be discussed in the Lower House on October 8.

Feletti assured the country’s growth could be «higher than expected» if an agreement with «vulture funds» over Argentina’s debt is met, and said the government has «enough dollars to function correctly up to December 2015.»

«We are not lacking in dollars. We have enough to honor ours debts and pay our imports,» he told lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Economy Vice-Minister Emmanuel Álvarez Agis explained the budget contains “next year’s government program”, which focuses on “strengthening policies that started with late President Néstor Kirchner in 2003.”

“The project intends to guarantee what we consider are the central aspects of our economic model: reindustrialization, employment and social inclusion, and the recovery of our national energy sovereignty,” he said.

Álvarez Agis informed the budget forecasts a 2.8 percent growth for 2015, and that the focus will be on “defending people’s jobs.”

“Public spending is well-oriented and balanced,” he stated, adding that 15 million people in Argentina receive “some kind of State allocation.”
