Pro-government lawmakers have cleared the Supply law for debate in the Senate after introducing some modifications in the bill.
After committee discussions on the reform package that also includes Consumer Defense laws, the head of the Kirchnerite Senate caucus Miguel Ángel Pichetto said the Supply law reform was modified to exclude businesses “that do not have a dominant role in their respective markets.”
The senator added the bill will specify that the Domestic Trade Secretariat’s possibility of conducting a raid in a business that does not act accordingly to the Supply law will need to be backed by a judge.
Meanwhile, Justice secretary Julián Alvarez revealed the imposition of “total closure” to a business was ruled out as an option, and a monetary compensation is to be paid to a business asked to produce in spite of being in the red.
Several consumer associations attended today’s meeting, as well as Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich and Domestic Trade secretary Augusto Costa.
