The National Statistics and Census Institute (INDEC) has revealed that unemployment reached 7.5 percent during the second quarter of 2014, a 0.4 percent increase on the previous period.
Rising jobless numbers reflect the ongoing recession that has hit the Argentine economy in 2014, particularly in the automotive and related industries. In the first three months of the year, unemployment was registered at 7.1 percent.
In the second quarter of 2013, meanwhile, the rate stood at 7.2 percent, marking a 0.3% interannual increase.
According to an INDEC statement, employment levels, which measure the proportion of the total Argentine population in paid work, fell to 41.4%, the lowest figure since 2006.
