Supermarket sales increase 35.1% in June

Supermarket sales went up 35.1 percent in June and shopping sales grew 23.6% compared to the same month of 2013, considering current prices in pesos, the state-run INDEC statistics bureau revealed today.

June’s supermarket revenue reached 14,597.7 million pesos, increasing 0.8% compared to May and 37.9% taking into account o first six months of 2014.

Meanwhile, in shopping centers revenue reached 2,845.2 million pesos in June, an 11.2% hike compared to May and a 33.8% rise taking into account the first semester of 2014.

Shopping sales went up 9.9% in June compared to May, while supermarket sales dropped 0.5%.

INDEC specified variations in sales were registered together with a 1.37% internal price hike in supermarkets and a 1.19% price increase in shopping centers.

Considering the first six months of 2014, INDEC registered a 16.5% price hike in supermarkets, slightly above the 15% general price increase revealed by the agency for the period.
