Robben: Argentina have no chance of beating Germany in final

Defeated Netherlands star Arjen Robben has thrown his weight behind Germany for the upcoming World Cup final against Argentina, claiming that the Albiceleste have no hope of winning their third title in a repeat of the 1990 decider.

Robben, who plays his club football in Germany with Bayern Munich, was kept quiet for almost the entire game by a determined Argentine defence, with Javier Mascherano making one spectacular intervention to stop the winger.

But the Netherlands star was defiant the day after going out of the semi-final, stating that there could only be one winner on Sunday.

«I have no doubt that Germany will be world champions. Argentina have no chance of beating Germany,» Robben fired in an interview with Kicker.

The player was one of two Netherlands penalty takers who found the net, while Sergio Romero came up with two massive saves to send Argentina through 4-2 in the shoot-out. But Robben insisted that his side had been the better team.

«It was a tough elimination, because we were very close to another final. But I am proud of this team, who I believe were superior to Argentina over 120 minutes of play,» he asserted.

Louis Van Gaal’s team will play the third-place play-off against Brazil this Saturday, while Argentina take on Germany the following day in the final, in Rio de Janeiro’s Maracaná Stadium.
