Congress backs government’s strategy, Capitanich says

After meeting with Congress party chiefs to discuss the government’s strategy regarding the country’s debt with holdout hedge funds, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich said “The Congress, through its different blocs, has backed Argentina’s stance in defense of national interests”.

Capitanich, along with Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and the Legal and Technical Secretary Carlos Zannini, met with lawmakers this morning at the Honour Room of the Lower House behind closed doors.

In a following press conference, the Cabinet Chief recognized that some lawmakers questioned the debt’s legitimacy and some points of the negotiation strategy but he pointed out that there was an overall support to the government’s stance.

“Everyone agreed to condemn the vulture funds’ attitude and to consider the ruling detrimental to national sovereignty,” Capitanich said to reporters.
