Kicillof: ‘Vulture funds are trying to carry out attack against Argentina’

Economy Minister Axel Kicillof has lent his support to a group of Argentine legislators currently in the United States ahead of June 12’s US Supreme Court decision on whether to take the case concerning holdout investors, while launching a fierce attack on the conduct of the so-called ‘vulture funds’.

Speaking at the ninth lottery of the Procrear housing credit scheme, Kicillof described as «extremely positive» the fact that opposition politicians formed part of the delegation currently in Washington, D.C.

«[They have gone] to explain to whoever will listen that the attack that the vulture funds are trying to carry out on Argentina will affect much more than just a government,» the politician asserted.

Kicillof also referred to the benefits of such projects as Procrear, pointing out that mortgage credits had grown by 62 percent in Argentina.

He added that the program had already led to the completion of 32,000 homes with 113,000 more under construction, while 100,000 people will receive credits to own their homes as a result of today’s lottery, which saw a total of more than 200,000 participants.

«Today we are going to have 100,000 new beneficiaries and this is a path that runs from the little ball to the bricks, and from the bricks right up to the house key,» he explained, underlining that «the national government’s commitment to Procrear is absolute.»

Kicillof used the event to criticise private banks, whom he accused of «tremendous abuses» in the last few months.

«They have become parasites of Argentine growth instead of a lever for it,» he fired.
