Vice President Amado Boudou has required moving forward for next week a court summon ordered by Judge Ariel Lijo, who is in charge of the investigation that seeks to probe Boudou’s alleged involvenment in the Ciccone case.
On Friday, the vice president was summoned for questioning as a suspect in the illegal purchase of the Ciccone Calcográfica company. The date had been set for July 15 but now Cristina Fernández de Kirchenr’s second-in-command has requested to move the appointment forward.
In a note issued by his lawyers, Boudou questioned both the date Jude Lijo chose to confirm he was summoning him for questioning (Friday last week) and the date for the inquiry (July 15th) which will coincide with President Kirchner’s trip to the Brazilian city of Fortaleza where the head of state will be taking part in a summit of the BRICS countries. During Ms. Kirchner’s abscence, it will be Boudou to be in charge of the government.
In the document, the ex economy minister ratified his “full and unconditional willingness to make his statement in case of being summoned duly.”
“It can not be put sideways that the investigation has had a profuse media treatment. It could not be denied either the existence of a true media lynching and condemnation to which I have been subjected to by the Clarín Group and the La Nación newspaper,” the also ex head of the ANSES social security agency added, criticizing two of the government’s leading media critics.
Following Friday’s news, Boudou talked to reporters and ratified his “innocence” and ruled out the possibility that the investigation could force him to resign. “No way. I am saying I am innocent. Neither have I had fear of going to prison because I have committed no crime. There is not situation in which I could be impeached for having acted outside the rule of law,” he vice president said last week.
