Capitanich: ‘We seek the best possible agreement with Paris Club’

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich referred to today’s Economy Minister Axel Kicillof’s meeting in Paris with Argentina’s Paris Club creditors. “The negotiation is complex,” Capitanich said and stressed that the government seeks “the best possible agreement”.

“The negotiation is complex, agreements need to be reached regarding several issues,” the Kirchnerite official said. “First we need to agree on a definition of the amount of the debt, then there is the interest rate, establishing settlement policies and the debt’s maturity,” Capitanich explained in his daily press briefing at Government House.

He also praised Kicillof’s efforts in the negotiations, describing the Economy Minister as “skillfull” and a “great negotiator” who will seek the “best possible agreement for Argentina, with proudence and good judgement, taking into account Argentina’s objective conditions regarding the country’s payment capability”.

Asked about the government’s stance regarding the Vulture Funds dispute in US Supreme Court, Capitanich stressed that there has been no change in the country’s standpoint. “[The government is] in strict compliance with the Argentine Constitution and the law,” he stated.
