Moyano accuses gov’t of ‘pressuring companies to block wage hikes’

“We will demand what the inflation has taken away from salaries’ purchasing power,” the Secretary General of the Teamsters Union warned ahead of the beginning of wage negotiations for the sector.

In statements to media today, the also head of the anti-government splinter of the CGT labour confederation Hugo Moyano said workers were ready to take “measures that could affect all citizens if business leaders don’t give us an answer.”

According to Moyano, the federal governments “is pressuring companies” to stop salary hikes.

“That is why we will try to recover what we have lost and if possible improve (workers’) purchasing power for the future. For now, teamsters’ demand goes around 40 percent,” the CGT leader told reporters and pointed out the union will also bring to the table of salary talks the income tax debate.

“If business leaders make an effort to give a hike but the government ends up with it, then it serves no good.”
