Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has reduced his preliminary World Cup squad to 26 players, after Lisandro López, Gabriel Mercado, Fabián Rinaudo and Franco Di Santo were told that there services would not be required in Brazil 2014.
The ex-Estudiantes chief and 2009 Copa Libertadores winner had announced yesterday that he would be trimming the list of players, stating that «30 players are a lot to start training with.» And there were few surprises over the identity of those sent home.
The 26 men left in the squad will begin training from Monday onwards, disputing friendly clashes with Trinidad & Tobago on June 4 followed by Slovenia on June 7.
The final list of 23 players must be handed in to FIFA prior to June 2.
